Support for Strengthening Governance

  • Do you feel your Management Committee is stuck in a rut?
  • Have you been thinking of carrying out a board review but have never had the time to do it?
  • Do you need help putting together an induction pack for new trustees or devising a skills audit for your board?
  • Would you appreciate someone coming to you and delivering tailored sessions for your trustees free of charge?

As part of its Infrastructure Support and Development Project funded by BASIS (Big Lottery), KVA will be supporting Management Committees in the borough in order to help them manage their performance and plan more effectively. We are currently recruiting 10 management committees to give them personalised support and help them improve their Governance skills.

The Code of Governance for the Voluntary and Community Sector is a framework which aims to help enhance the effectiveness of voluntary and community organisations by clarifying what effective governance looks like and how governing bodies can govern effectively.

If you register with us we can help you use the Code to gain a greater understanding of good governance in your organisation which could include:

  • induction or refresher workshops on trustee roles and responsibilities
  • an audit of your Management Committee skills
  • a review of your governance arrangements, comparing your practices with the code to help you identify the action points
  • organising a discussion about the boundaries between governance and management
  • planning board recruitment and induction
  • reviewing your financial and risk management procedures

A review of your governance arrangements might reveal a need for a bespoke session for your organisation, which we would be happy to deliver.

Whilst the Code is not mandatory, signing up to it demonstrates your commitment to developing good governance, which is becoming ever more important to funders.
