Health Overview Panel
July 2010

Local Authorities have powers to review and scrutinise the operation of health systems in their area and make reports and recommendations to NHS bodies on the outcome of scrutiny exercises.

The principles of health scrutiny are to:

  • act as a lever to improve the health of  local people
  • ensure that the needs of local people are considered as an integral part of the delivery and development of health services
  • focus on health improvement to  promote social environmental and economic well-being
  • scrutinise local services provided and  commissioned by the NHS
  • address issues of health inequalities between different groups.

The Panel works with partners to scrutinise any areas of concern flagged up by local people. A new Panel of Kingston councillors has been established, chaired by councillor Shiraz Mirza. Meetings are held in public in the Guildhall.

You can find information about forthcoming meetings on the RBK website.
