Kingston Voluntary Action, promoting quality in partnership

The main aim of the project is to raise awareness of workforce development issues in Kingston for voluntary, community and private groups working with children and young people.

The project aims to enable those groups to access training opportunities in the borough and to build their capacity through training, advice and support for their staff, volunteers and trustees.

In partnership with RBK's Voluntary Sector Unit, the project also aims to support third sector representatives on the committees of the Children's Trust.

Training

Training for people working with children and young people is run by various departments in RBK, mainly Learning and Childrens Services and Early Years. Their training programmes are on the RBK website. There are usually two places reserved for people from VCS groups at each event.

We also run our own seminars on topics which have been highlighted as useful by groups in the third sector. To date these have included Safer Recruitment, South London Learning Consortium, Developing a Training Plan and Participation. The next seminar will be:

Who to refer to? What services are available and how do we make referrals?

November - Wednesday 18 November
The range of referral services available in Kingston for groups working with children and young people.

To book places or for further information, please email cwd@kva.org.uk

KVA has also recently launched an extensive training programme funded by The BIG Lottery. Further details can be found on the Training page of this website.

Background Information

The Children's Workforce Development Council was set up in 2005. It is a Sector Skills Council whose aim is to support organisations that offer services to children and young people and their families/carers. It was set up as part of the Every Child Matters initiative to improve the quality of provision for children, young people and their families/carers.

Kingston Voluntary Action and RBK secured funding from the Children's Workforce Development Council for the Children First and Young People First Project in Kingston.
