Equality and Diversity Date: Wednesday, 19th May 2010 Time: 10.00 am – 4.30 pm Venue: Richard Mayo Centre, United Reformed Church Who Should Attend: Everyone in the voluntary sector! Course Overview: The course will aim to equip the staff, mangers, trustees and volunteers of voluntary organisations in Kingston with the knowledge and skills to actively promote equality and diversity through reaching out and engaging with people and groups from all communities across our borough. The course will also give you the basis for developing and reviewing your policy and practice so that your organisation can live up to the values of equality and diversity for the benefit of everyone in the voluntary sector. By the end of the course participants will: have clarified the meaning and expectations of Equality and Diversity policies and strategies; be aware of both explicit and subtle forms of discrimination and their effects on individuals and organisations; have a fuller understanding of the sensitivity and awareness required to deliver an effective service to a diverse community; have further understanding of the sensitivity and awareness required to promote good managerial and working relationships between staff and/or volunteers; have an updated knowledge of the key legal requirements and allowances within the : Sex Discrimination Act (1975), and have clarified how the Equality Standard for Local Government fits in with the work of the participant and the organisation. Trainer: Suneel Chadha has worked as a diversity manager, training officer and policy officer. He has provided successful Equality and Diversity modules on induction programmes and run specialist Equality and Diversity programmes for staff and managers. Suneel works with the voluntary sector and the statutory sector and provides equality and diversity training and skills development workshops.
