Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW)

Date: Wednesday, 14th April 2010

Time: 10.00 am – 4.30 pm

Venue: Quaker Meeting Place

Who Should Attend: Organisations needing to qualify staff or volunteers to take responsibility for a first aid emergency and the first aid box in accordance with the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.

Course Overview: On completion of training, successful candidates should be able to:

  • understand the role of the first aider including reference to the importance of preventing cross infection; the need for recording incidents and actions; use of available equipment;
  • assess the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency;
  • administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious (including seizure);
  • administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation(CPR);
  • administer first aid to a casualty who is choking;
  • administer first aid to a casualty who is wounded and bleeding;
  • administer first aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock;
  • provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries.

Trainer: Simon Hill, Malden Emergency First Aid Society (MEFAS) on behalf of Derby Civil Aid. Derby Civil Aid is approved by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to provide training and assessment of candidates for First Aid at Work.

Assessment and Certification:On successful completion of the course, the delegate will receive a certificate of attendance issued by Derby Civil Aid. Certificates are valid for 3 years under the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.

Course Fee: £40 for Voluntary and Community Organisations. £65 for other organisations.
