HR for Non-HR Specialists

Who Should Attend: Management Committee members, and all those who manage paid staff or are considering taking on paid staff.

Course Overview: The aim of the course is to raise the awareness of potential and new employers about employment legislation and good practice in the workplace.

At the end of the course, the learners will know the difference between volunteers, the self-employed, employees and casual workers; understand why it is important to get employment status right; know what a contract of employment should include; know what employment policies and procedures should be in place and understand the basics of performance management.

Topics covered include the essential elements of employment law such as:
employment status; the written statement of particulars; contracts of employment;
recruitment; performance management; discipline and grievance and dismissal.

Trainer: Clare Knights has worked with PEACe, LVSC's personnel, employment advice and conciliation service for over 4 years providing free advice on the PEACe helpline for employers, developing resources and delivering training on HR and employment law issues in the voluntary sector, as well as providing subsidised consultancy support. 

Course Fee: £40 for Voluntary and Community Organisations. £65 for other organisations.
