Safeguarding Children – Safer Recruitment and Safer Practice

Who Should Attend: Management or trustees of organisations who work with children and who have responsibilities for recruitment of staff or volunteers as well as for developing policies and procedures.

Course Overview: This short course offers a summary of the safer recruitment guidance. This course covers a range of best practice about recruiting people to work with children.

Please note: the Safer Recruitment and Practice is NOT about what action you should take to safeguard a child you suspect might be harmed or abused - for training in this subject please look at Child Protection.

Topics covered include:

  • developing safe employment processes and a culture of safety within your organisation
  • understanding the importance of planning a recruitment
  • sending out the right message to potential candidates about the organisation being committed to the safety of children and young people
  • developing processes to obtain relevant information about potential employees/volunteers
  • revisiting and applying relevant legislation and guidance

Trainer: Carla Thomas, a local Safeguarding Children Board Training and Development Manager.
