Dates: Wednesday, 24th March 2010. Wednesday 20 May 2010.

Time: 10.00 am – 1.00 pm

Venue: Access Learning Centre

Who Should Attend: Organisations who want to set up a website using the free and easy-to-use VOICE tool. Also suitable for additional staff/volunteers from organisations who already have a VOICE website and need an introduction to the tool in order to update their site.

What is VOICE: VOICE is a powerful publishing tool that allows groups to create free websites and develop them using a selection of templates and applications, which require no knowledge of website design or programming. Websites using VOICE can be found in the Community Directory on the Kingston E-Voice Portal. This service is made available to groups in Kingston by the Royal Borough of Kingston working in partnership with Kingston Volutary Action.

Why your organisation should have a website: These days it is expected that organisations will have some sort of web presence, so it is a good idea to have a website. It may be a very basic site with just an overview of what you do and your contact details. This type of site is very easy to set up and requires little or no time to maintain it and this may be all that your organisation needs. Alternatively, you may find that the Internet can help you further in promoting your work and you may want a website that will allow you to announce news and developments. A website can also provide an efficient way of sharing documents with your members or the public, and can be used for discussions, surveys and polls.

These are all features that can be easily set up in the VOICE system. Full support and guidance will be provided on what could benefit your organisation when you register for the VOICE training sessions, so that creating a new website or developing an existing site need not be a daunting prospect.

Course Overview: The aim of the course is to set up a basic website with a logo, contact details and information on your organisation using VOICE. The course will cover:

  • Adding text, images and links to a page
  • Adding and ordering pages
  • Changing the look and feel of the site

Full support will be provided both prior to the course and afterwards to give you guidance on planning and maintaining a website that meets your needs, as well as providing help with any technical issues.

You may then want to move onto the Advanced course which looks at how to further develop your website.

Trainer: The training will be delivered by members of the Superhighways team.

Course Fee: £20 for Voluntary and Community Organisations.
