Developing a Website Using VOICE - Advanced Superhighways Logo

Dates: Monday 29 March 2010, 10-12.30. Wednesday 20 May 2-4.30.

Venue: Access Learning Centre

Who Should Attend: Organisations who already have a VOICE website and want to develop it further.

What is VOICE: VOICE is a powerful publishing tool that allows groups to create free websites and develop them using a selection of templates and applications, which require no knowledge of website design or programming. Websites using VOICE can be found in the Community Directory on the Kingston E-Voice Portal. This service is made available to groups in Kingston by the Royal Borough of Kingston working in partnership with Kingston Volutary Action.

Why your organisation should have a website: These days it is expected that organisations will have some sort of web presence, so it is a good idea to have a website. It may be a very basic site with just an overview of what you do and your contact details. This type of site is very easy to set up and requires little or no time to maintain it and this may be all that your organisation needs. Alternatively, you may find that the Internet can help you further in promoting your work and you may want a website that will allow you to announce news and developments. A website can also provide an efficient way of sharing documents with your members or the public, and can be used for discussions, surveys and polls.

These are all features that can be easily set up in the VOICE system. Full support and guidance will be provided on what could benefit your organisation when you register for the VOICE training sessions, so that creating a new website or developing an existing site need not be a daunting prospect.

Course Overview: The aim of the course is to introduce advanced features of VOICE in order to increase the functionality offered by your website. The course will include:

  • Events Calendar
  • Contact Forms
  • User and Member management
  • Statistics

You will be contacted prior to the course to identify any specific areas of interest so that the session can be tailored to meet your requirements. Support will also be available after the course to ensure you are able to continue to develop a website that suits your needs.

Trainer: The training will be delivered by members of the Superhighways team.

Assessment and Certification: A certificate of attendance will be issued to all participants.

Course Fee: £20 for Voluntary and Community Organisations.
